It has been determined that benzene can form in soft drinks (that’s POP to all you Ohioans out there) because of the presence of Vitamin C (affectionately called ascorbic acid among chemists) and Sodium benzoate or Potassium benzoate. The presence of benzene is not automatic. However, it can form with heat and time.
So, your choices are to find beverages that have these two chemicals in them (check the ingredients) or you can just get yourself something called a “BellyWasher” at your local convenience store.
Good luck!
