This woman is incredibly talented and has a great voice. Unfortunately, I was only able to really get into her first two albums. Her first album, Suzanne Vega is an interesting batch of songs that, to me, induce all sorts of mental pictures when I listen to it. The second album, Solitude Standing has a much fuller sound, but still is very simple. While I have never grown tired of hearing “Luka,” as some may have; “Ironbound” is also a great song, too. The rest of the album is good, but begins to lose the appeal. Like I said, she does great stuff but for some reason, I never really kept up with listening to her stuff.

Greetings To The New Brunette

This song rocks. Write that down.
My favorite lines from the song (at the 2:40 mark):
“Here we are in our summer years
Living on ice cream and chocolate kisses
Would the leaves fall from the trees
if I was your old man and you were my missus?”

For those of you old enough to remember when MTV (music television) actually played music videos, I have discovered something very cool. It seems that bands like Missing Persons, Iron Maiden, Pretenders, Duran Duran, BlancMange, Stan Ridgeway, and XTC live again. Only this time, as really small, grainy video footage converted to the computer. If you enlarge the screen, the sound quality is still there, but the visual quality drops to less than the Zapruder film (an even older reference than the MTV one!!)
Here are links to some of my favorite videos. Enjoy!

Doctors have ordered Jessica Simpson to not talk or sing!
September 2, 2006 · 1 Comment
Hell, if I had known it was that easy, I would have gotten those doctors to sign off years ago.
If you haven’t figured it out, I am not a big fan of this Pizza Hut-endorsing faux chanteuse. While I can appreciate looking at women and that cleavage thing, I also like listening to music. With her, the draw seems to be looking at her instead of listening to her sing. Even Mariah Carey seems to have played the bikini card to further career, although marrying the president of Capitol Records probably helped, too. For those of us who remember music BEFORE music videos, it didn’t matter what they looked like really. Once we started to see what our favorite performers looked like, things changed. Well, there was some change. However, the people with talent were both able to outlive this fluff and still hold onto their integrity in the process.
I am reminded of the news that a newly wed Jessica Simpson, approximately a year after her marriage to Nick Lachey, penned a book about how to make a marriage last. As if that time frame didn’t make the book laughable at that point, the marriage has since dissolved. In addition to being paraded around the music industry to look at, she tops off her existence by clearly demonstrating she has no business in the advice arena either.
For those of us not distracted by cleavage (well, not all the time), musicians like Billy Joel have clearly got “da skills” when it comes to performing. Not only does Billy not pose in bikinis, he also isn’t trying to give anyone any sage advice.
That’s the way it’s supposed to be.
Please note: there is no picture of Jessica Simpson here. That was purely intentional. This is stjarna and I approve this message.

Bad news kids, it’s not that Nornna chick either. It’s one of those synthesizers from the days of Yore (not to be confused with the Days Of Thunder, which was a bad Tom Cruise movie)
Rock on, if only in a Kraftwerk sort of way.

The Dream Police….Police! Police!

For those of you not fortunate to have experienced this group when they were around, this would be CHEAP TRICK.
This would be an example of a band that does not suck.

Thomas Dolby has a blog!
April 4, 2006 · Leave a Comment
He gives some interesting info about the equipment he uses. He also talks about other interests, tracking down family photos, some family history, and that Kevin Federline (Britney Spear’s husband) had illegally sampled a track he has the copywrite to. I didn’t know that Mr. Spears had a rap career? I didn’t even know he had a career? I think I remember seeing pictures of the man. From what I remember, he looks like a dirt bag. I suppose I need to remember that Britney’s first attempt at marriage lasted 55 hours over a long weekend in Vegas. Unlike most males, I think Mrs. Spears is unattractive fluff…it seems she can add “lousy taste in men” to a growing list a serious flaws.
Anyway, being a techie myself, I found Thomas Dolby’s blog to rock. Check it out!

p.s. For those of you remember the Thomas Dolby video sampler, remember the triangle-head in the “Hyperactive” video? Europe, hyperactivate. Wise up, hyperactivate. Get up, hyperactivate.
