Blather Rinse Repeat closes its doors

October 13, 2007 · 6 Comments

After a great deal of thought, I have decided to end the existence of this blog. I would like to say that it’s because I have just received my invitation to Hogwarts or that Adriana Lima has begged me to teach her how to set up computer networks in exotic locations around the world. Unfortunately, I have a lot of stuff on my plate at this time and have – for the moment – run out of muse.

I really want to thank all the people I have met through this page and visiting other blogs. I will keep the site up, rather than delete it. I wouldn’t want to crush the 200 or so visitors I get each day. Of course, it used to be more than that but a major Kari Byron site was knocked off line and I lost several hundred surfers looking for KB pics. I still get a lot of traffic from people who seek “women with long tongues,” Scarlett Johansen pics and the occasional WNEP/Julie Sidoni/Scott Schaeffer info. I will miss each and every one of you, except those who got a bit creepy with your search terms.

If anyone would like to reach me, my e-mail address is stjarna67@yahoo.com

      Keep it real.

Should Kari Byron be the next president?

September 9, 2007 · 3 Comments

Combining the need for a viable candidate with a very popular search term that brings people to my blog; I am asking my blog readers to offer their thoughts on whether or not we should vote for Kari in 2008.

First, let me explain that I do not know Ms. Byron. I am simply exploring the political waters for her.

With that said, let’s do some comparing to the other candidates to see how she stacks up.

Hillary Clinton – wears sensible shoes
Kari Byron – wears Chuck Taylors

Hillary Clinton – is both for and against the war
Kari Byron – blows things up in parking lots

Hillary Clinton – has been investigated for questionable dealings
Kari Byron – conducts investigations on Mythbusters

Hillary Clinton – may or may not live in New York to satisfy campaign law
Kari Byron – lives in California.

Barack Obama – has no political experience
Kari Byron – has no political experience

Dennis Kucinich – former mayor of Cleveland, OH
Kari Byron – people have heard of her

Rudy Guiliani – former mayor of New York City
Kari Byron – spent one episode wearing silver body paint

To me, the choice is clear. Although her background is in the fine arts, she seems to have a solid appreciation and grasp of science. She doesn’t have any political experience, but incumbency has already proven to be useless at this point. She seems fairly articulate and already has a fairly large base of fans. The fact that she spends energy getting to the bottom of information and actually CARES what the findings are is important.

However, it is possible that the cheesecaky FHM photo shoot might be held against her. I am guessing that Hillary Clinton might try to use that against Kari, seeing as Hillary couldn’t pull off the naughty lab tech look.

Hey, it could still happen. The only other presidential candidate choices based on search terms that get people to my site include spyware removal, Angel Boris, Julie Sidoni and girls with long tongues.

So, if not Kari Byron; should girls with long tongues be the next president?  We’ll just have to see what the voters have in store for us, I guess.

More thoughts on man-hating themed blogs

January 2, 2007 · 1 Comment

I have been thinking about some of the things said about  the topic of gender equality issues, specifically about I have heard in exchange to my posts.

1) “I am not trying to be an activist.” etc. – First, the expectation of privacy on the Internet is not realistic. The Internet is incredibly public. Anything you put out there for public consumption,  intended or not, becomes an influence on one level or another.

2) “It’s not my job to educate all males” etc. -  Who job is it? If it has been up to the males and things haven’t changed enough to desirable levels, might it be time to consider other influences? The most influential way is through children. Raise them to be respectful and the problem takes care of itself. The change won’t be overnight, but then again sexism didn’t happen overnight either. Education and raising awareness is what will make a difference towards that change. What’s the point if it is not?

3) “You’re not listening to what I am saying.”   Communication is more than just exchanging words. It is sharing ideas that have meaning. Meaning can be conveyed with verbal tone and inflection, along with how and what is said around the idea. Some words can be emotionally loaded, yet with sometimes different meanings. Like sharing the same language to help understanding, defining words different can interfere. Finally, while not using specific word like ‘hate’; one can still get the implication.  You might believe you are being clear, but obviously there can be other obstacles.

4) Us. vs. them – I would think that identifying these groups, plus using the word radical (like in radfem) would be a big indication that things aren’t being presented without a specific agenda here. Presenting yourself as an extremist is probably one of the first ways to have people automatically write you off. You can be an agent of change without having to identify yourself with the terrorist line of thought. The whole point of working towards change should imply that some negotiation is possible to work together towards a solution. How likely is that with a radical?

5) Googlebombing is not the answer – In response to those men who want to look up porn, some self-identified feminists are using adult words on their site that link to pro-women sites. So, when these men do a search for porn; the stuff that makes it to the top of the search engine lists are mislabeled feminist links.  If these feminists are seeking to change men, how likely are these men to take their sites seriously then. Tricking someone to see your sites isn’t going to help sway thoughts. It just reinforces the separation. How counterproductive is that? Why complain in the first place if you are part of the problem?

6) Separating the issue from the people – It is possible to be a feminist but not identify with radical thought. Questioning some actions or refusing to share in the extremism doesn’t make you a betrayer to the cause. You don’t automatically become a member of the other side by evaluating your own arguments. You just have to be careful with how you sort it.
