Dick Cheney meets with a 3 year old in Pennsylvania at a Rick Santorum fundraiser

The mind reels at the possibilities of comments to be made here. For those of you who hadn’t read the news, it seems that Sen. Rick Santorum held a $1,000 bucks a person fundraiser for his campaign at someone’s house in the area where I live in PA. If one shelled out $5,000, you would have been able to get your picture with Dick Cheney. This would automatically include a 30 second meeting while your picture was being taken with the Vice President. This little Bush Administration break from the popularity beating they are taking in the polls happened because of a little 3 year old girl named Taylor. This Pennsylvanian toddler has a fascination with the Vice President that eventually led to this little girl’s family holding this fundraiser. Dolled up in a red, white, and blue dress with elephants on it; Taylor was able to meet and spend two (free?) minutes with the man who is seeking to get the CIA exempt from any torture restriction when dealing with terrorists.

I really tried to understand this obviously staged photo op for Dick Cheney. Isn’t the little girl able to find violent enough role models from television cartoons? Is she looking for tips on lying to her parents? Does Dick Cheney no limit his interactions to those who don’t ask tough questions? Is he lining up a new potential heart donor? Is Dick reaching out to the last demographic to support the Bush Administration? Did Taylor come up with $5,000 for this meeting by herself or did she accept funds from political action committees targeting anti-nap time legislation? I didn’t know what to think.

I think the Republicans are just looking to soften their image, especially with topics like secret torture chambers maintained by the U.S. in foreign nations and the Presidential threat of vetoing torture ban legislation. I think someone needs to tell Taylor that Vice President Cheney likes to “give people spankings.” Then, we’ll see what happens to the last of their support base.
